In the Spring of 1990, Harley Lond (then editor of Boxoffice Magazine) and Shawn Levy (then Boxoffice’s associate editor) traveled to the famed Chateau Marmont hotel on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles to interview Alejandro Jodorowsky, who was in town to promote the opening of his first film in almost a decade, “Santa Sangre.” During the course of the wide-ranging 45-minute conversation conducted by Shawn, Jodorowsky discussed such varied topics as dreams, religion, art & reality, symbolism, comic books, Hollywood, religion, filmmaking, family, the prostitute’s mass, the Marx Brothers and, of course, “Santa Sangre” and his films. The audio file — taken from a mini-cassette recording — is a bit rough but Jodorowsky’s wit and wisdom shines through. Enjoy.
