Weekly timeline for 1968: A year of change and tumult
January 22: “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” premieres on NBC.
January 22: Apollo 5 launches for trip to the Moon.
January 23: North Koreans seize the USS Pueblo, a Naval intelligence ship, off the coast of Korea. The vessel and its 83-man crew are held on charges of spying and violating the country’s 12-mile limit. The crew gains freedom 11 months later.
January 24, Olympic gymnast Gold Medal-winner Mary Lou Retton is born in Fairmont, W.V.
January 28: Sarah McLachlan is born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
